An army uniform button, nearly 100 years old, was recently unearthed during reconstruction work at Victoria Barracks.Bearing the insignia of the 12th (Suffolk) Regiment, it is in first-class condition, and even the manufacturer, Firman and Sons, London, is clearly readable.An Army authority said that construction of the first block of Victoria Barracks was completed in 1841.In 1854 the 12th Regiment were in occupation and its fatigue parties assisted Royal Engineers in levelling off sand to prepare a parade-ground. Apparently some conscientious trooper swung his shovel too hard and "did" a button off his tunic. October 13, 1949.

This photograph of two common types of detonators is published at the request of CIB chief, Det. -Supt. Calman so that parents and children will be able to identify these small but deadly explosives. on the left is an electric detonator, complete with wire attached, while alongside is an aluminium detonator for "crimping" on to fuse. Both are "lethal" and will explode if dropped or knocked. Many have found their way into the hands of children recently, and several boys have been maimed. July 25, 1955.
