Olympic Rowing Course at Lake Wendouree: Lake Wendouree, Ballarat, Victoria, the venue for the rowing and canoeing events at the 1956 Olympic Games. Seventy four miles northwest of Melbourne, 588acre Lake Wendouree provides a suitable expanse of calm water for the events. Ample breadth is provided throughout the Olympic course for six eightoar crews to race abreast. Wendouree has accommodated as many as 20 eights abreast in one race. Three local rowing clubs and a sailing club have headquarters on its shores, which are surrounded by 80 acres of parkland and shady trees. December 15, 1955. The new swimming device in the shallow in Utrecht, of which we used to bring a few pictures when she was still under construction, was now officially opened, with a speech from the mayor that we see here speaking. Ex-Prisoner of War Strokes Oxford Crew - R.M.A. Bourne practising in the mirror boat watched by the Secretary D.G. Jamison (Magdalen). R.M.A. Bourne (New College) son of the late Captain R.C. Bourne, M.P for Oxford City, is stroke of the Oxford crew now practising for the Intervarsity Boat Race. He was a prisoner of war for five years. Boy Meets Buoy -- Clark Haskell in charge of repairing the course Bouys and markers makes sure the speed demons will be able to see the course of the International Motor Boat Regatta to be held here March 8th and 9th. Haskell, a local racing enthusiast, would rather be racing than painting but pitches in top help make the race a success. The course, a mile and two-thirds, will be circular and will be laid Gatta was first Inaugurated in 1936 and was held annually until 1941 when it was postponed because of wartime restrictions.
