The seat of war in Denmark, 1864. The Second Schleswig War was the second military conflict over the Schleswig-Holstein Question of the nineteenth century. The war began on 1 February 1864, when Prussian and Austrian forces crossed the border into the Danish fief Schleswig. Denmark fought troops of the Kingdom of Prussia and the Austrian Empire representing the German Confederation. The war ended on 30 October 1864, with the Treaty of Vienna and Denmark's cession of the Duchies of Schleswig (except for the island of Ærø, which remained Danish), Holstein and Saxe-Lauenburg to Prussia

This ground plan of Roman catacombs dates to 1897. These catacombs were originally quarries, some of which predate the founding of Rome (said to be 753 B.C.). They were said to be extended so that eventually all the seven hills of Roime were pierced by them. They are low dark corridors or vaulted halls excavated in the soft volcanic tufa and puzzolana, in the lateral walls of which apertures were made for the recpetion of corpses. In all there are some 40 Catacombs, each forming a network of galleries, usually intersectionm one another at right angles.The whole length of the Roman catacombs is form 500 to 550 miles is it is estimated that they contained fully 6 million bodies.
