April 26, 2014. Zanja Madre lays broken after its transfer to a flat bed truck failed in an attempt to remove the structure to nearby Metabolic Studios for safe keeping. The 100 foot section and 4 foot diameter of brick pipe was found at a construction site at Chinatown and is a remnant of the 90 mile network of channels that brought water to the early inhabitants of Los Angeles. Originally built in 1781 it was enclosed in 1877 and eventually abandoned in 1904.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- At NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, construction crews lay large wooden mats on top of sand and reinforcing steel to protect the concrete under the rotating service structure (RSS) of Launch Pad 39B during deconstruction.Starting in 2009, the structure at Pad B was no longer needed for NASA's Space Shuttle Program, so it is being restructured for future use. The new design will feature a "clean pad" for rockets to come with their own launcher, making it more versatile for a number of vehicles.

The labyrinth weir at the Isabella Dam Safety Modification Project in Lake Isabella, California rises 28 feet above the floor of the emergency spillway on July 28, 2022. Crews with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District are approaching completion of construction work on the dam system, including the auxiliary and main dams, emergency spillway and labyrinth weir. The project is designed to reduce flood risk for downstream communities including Bakersfield.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - At NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the mobile launcher park site area is buzzing with activity as workers construct a new mobile launcher, or ML, for the Constellation Program. The launcher is being built at the site, north of Kennedy's Vehicle Assembly Building, to support the Ares I rocket.The launcher's tower will have multiple platforms for personnel access and be approximately 345 feet tall. The ML will provide a base to launch the Ares I which will transport the Orion crew exploration vehicle, its crew and cargo to low Earth orbit. The base is being made lighter than space shuttle mobile launcher platforms so the crawler-transporter can pick up the heavier load of the tower and taller rocket.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - In Launch Complex 39 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the last outside wall of the Propellants North Administrative and Maintenance Facility is lifted into place.Concrete layers on either side of high-density foam insulation in the facility's walls will prevent any transfer of radiant heat between the exterior and interior of the buildings. A tilt-up construction method is being used to erect a THERMOMASS concrete wall insulation system for the facility's walls. In this approach, the exterior layer of concrete for the wall panels is poured and leveled on the building's footprint. Then, prefabricated, predrilled insulation sheets are arranged on top of the unhardened concrete, and connectors, designed to hold the sandwiched layers of concrete and insulation secure, are inserted through the predrilled holes. Next, the structural wythe is poured. Once cured, these panels are lifted upright to form the building's envelope. The facility will have a two
