Since 1984, the Astrovan, a modified Airstream motor home, has carried shuttle crew members to the launch pads. Edwin W. Lewis Jr. is a research pilot in the Airborne Science program, Flight Crew Branch, Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, California. He currently flies the DC-8, F/A-18, Lear Jet 24, King Air, and T-34C in support of Dryden's flight operations and is mentor pilot for the King Air and the Lear Jet.Prior to accepting this assignment Lewis was a pilot for eight years at NASA's Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, California, flying 10 different aircraft C-130B, DC-8-72, UH-1, SH-3, King Air, Lear 24, T-38A, T-39G and YO-3A in support of NASA flight missions. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. -   At NASA Kennedy Space Centers Shuttle Landing Facility, Steve Fossett is happy and eager to start what he hopes will be a historic flight in the Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer he is strapped into.  Fossett will pilot the GlobalFlyer on a record-breaking attempt by flying solo, non-stop without refueling, to surpass the current record for the longest flight of any aircraft. This is the second attempt in two days after a fuel leak was detected Feb. 7.  The expected time of takeoff is 7 a.m.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - At the NASA Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Landing Facility, employees load hurricane relief supplies onto a NASA aircraft bound for Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, which suffered damage from Hurricane Katrina. The supplies included 10 boxes of load bus disconnects going to Michoud Assesmbly Facility near New Orleans and 17 boxes of personal hygiene items, along with boxes of clothing and water. Many Stennis and Michoud employees were rendered homeless by the hurricane. NASA centers have been generous with relief supplies and personnel. Stennis is in limited operations mode. Daily convoys have been moving between Stennis and Michould, transporting personnel and supplies as Michoud prepares to resume limited operations.

The other members of the Expedition Two crew are James Voss and Yury Usachev. They are at KSC to inspect the air lock that will be carried to the Station during their tenure in space. Four astronauts brought space shuttle Atlantis home to the Shuttle Landing Facility's Runway 15 at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 5:57 a.m. EDT bringing a close NASA's Space Shuttle Program. Atlantis' final return from space completed a 13-day, 5.2-million-mile journey to the International Space Station.STS-135 delivered spare parts, equipment and supplies in the Raffaello multi-purpose logistics module that will sustain station operations for the next year. STS-135 was the 33rd and final flight for Atlantis, which has spent 307 days in space, orbited Earth 4,848 times and traveled 125,935,769 miles.

Drollingers father, Richard, was director of engineering at Marion Power Shovel Co. in Ohio where the crawlers were initially built in 1965.  Koehring is the son of Philip Koehring Sr., who was project manager at Marion.  Media representatives and invited guests had the opportunity to tour one of NASA's two crawlers. This included the driver cab and engine room.  Guests included current drivers and operators, as well as drivers from the Apollo Program.  In January 1966, the crawler completed its first successful move with a 10.6-million-pound launch umbilical tower. It moved three-quarters of a mile in about nine hours.
