The early 1900s caption reads: 'Hunyadi and Capistran leading assault at Belgrade. Hunyadi Janos, the great hero of Hungary, won his most splendid victory over the Turks at Belgrade. An Italian monk, Capistran, preached a crusade against them and brought a horde of ill-armed peasants to Hunyadis aid. At the head of those, Hunyadi charged the Turks. The wild fanaticism of his followers made up for their lack of discipline and the foe fled.'.

This illustration shows the charge of Count Pulaski. Casimir Pulaski (1745-1779), a Polish nobleman and soldier and commander, was recruited for the American Revolution, where he became a brigadier general in the Continental Army. Known as a "Soldier of Liberty," he made his mark as a cavalry officer and came to be known as "The Father of American Cavalry." Pulaski was mortally wounded in battle at Savannah, Georgia. .

Roman tradition and legend said that the twin gods Castor and Polluxboth on horsebackfought alongside the Romans at the Battle of Lake Regillus and were key to the Romans defeating the Latin League. Memoirs of a Cavalier is a work of historical fiction by Daniel Defoe, set during the Thirty Years' War and the English Civil Wars. The full title, which bore no date, was: Memoirs of a Cavalier; or A Military Journal of the Wars in Germany, and the Wars in England from the Years 1632 to 1648. Daniel Defoe was an English trader, writer, journalist, pamphleteer and spy. He is most famous for his novel Robinson Crusoe, published in 1719, which is claimed to be second only to the Bible in its number of translations.
