Scribal statue of Rahotep found in his tomb with several others. It is in the position of the scribe, a sign of erudition, as he was also the Inspector of the royal secretaries. Kneeling captive ca. 2246-2152 B.C. Old Kingdom Beginning at least in the mid-Fifth Dynasty, large sculptures of bound foreign captives appeared in the pharaoh's pyramid complex. Pepi I and Pepi II had great numbers of them. This piece and the associated piece 47,2 can be dated to the reign of Pepi II for stylistic reasons. Statues of prisoners were presumably placed in areas of the pyramid complex where battle and triumph scenes occurred. The consistency of the breaks on these figures at the neck or shoulder and midtorso argue strongly that the statues were ritually executed, presumably to mark some event in the history of the pyramid complex.Although stereotypes of foreign physiognomies clearly existed during the Old Kingdom, they do not correspond well with those known and identified by ethnicity from the New Kingdom.This statue may represent a desert dweller or a man from adjacent lands in the north. Date: ca. 1479-1458 B.C..Hatshepsut, the most successful of several female rulers of ancient Egypt, declared herself king sometime between years 2 and 7 of the reign of her stepson and nephew, Thutmose III. She adopted the full titulary of a pharaoh, including the throne name Maatkare, which is the name most frequently found on her monuments. Her throne name and her personal name, Hatshepsut, are both written inside oval cartouches making them easy to recognize. In this life-size statue, Hatshepsut is shown wearing the nemes-headcloth and the shendyt-kilt. These are part of the ceremonial attire of the Egyptian king, which was traditionally a man's role. Head from a colossal statue of King Amenemhat III. Twelfth Dynasty, about 1830 BC from Bubast. The massive head comes from one of a pair of colossal statues set up in the temple of the cat-goddess Bastet at the city of Bibastis in the Nile delta. It shoes the severe style of the late Twelfth Dynasty, and the striking appearance would have been enhanced by the inlaid eyes originally fitted in the sockets.

Granite statue of Mentuhotep, vizier of Pharaoh Sesostris I. 1971 - 1936 BC. From the Temple of Amon (Karnak). Sesostris is known to have had a vizier, or prime minister, by the name of Mentuhotep who wielded extraordinary power, and some scholars have identified this vizier with the biblical Joseph. Sir Alan Gardiner assigns a date of 1971-1928 B.C. to Sesostris I, but by a revised chronology he would have been ruling when Joseph was sold as a slave into Egypt in about 1681 B.C.

Canopic Jar of Ruiu ca. 1504-1447 B.C. New Kingdom The burial of Ruiu was found in the tomb of her father, Neferkhawet, which was excavated by the Museums Egyptian Expedition in 1935. Ruius coffin and canopic box had been placed in the east chamber of the tomb along with the burials of seven other family members. The canopic box had been badly damaged by dampness and insects, but enough was left to allow the archaeologists to reconstruct the box and its decoration and texts on paper.The box was divided into four compartments by two interlocking partitions, and the jars had been placed in these compartments. Each side of the box was decorated with the image of one of the four funerary goddesses: Isis, Nephthys, Selkit, and Neit. Head of King Seti II Wearing the Blue Crown ca. 1200-1194 B.C. New Kingdom, Ramesside This elegant head originally belonged with the body of a statue that still stands in the great Hypostyle Hall of the Temple of Amun at Karnak whose inscriptions show that the statue had been carved for Seti II. Although resemblances in features are not particularly close, the rather severe tone of the head finds echoes in certain Theban statuary of Merneptah. Two uraei wearing red crowns are carved in relief on the proper left side of the king's crown in front of the ears, and two wearing white crowns are carved on the right side. Since the red crown is associated with Northern (Upper) Egypt and the white crown with Southern (Lower) Egypt, this may indicate that the statue itself was oriented by these coordinates and faced the east. Traces of pigment on the surface of the head indicate that the crown was painted blue, the band where it fits the forehead along with the crown's uraeus were colored with
