Osiris figure for Gautsoshen ca. 1000-945 B.C. Third Intermediate Period This Osiride figure was carved from sycomore-fig wood, then inserted into a coniferous wood base. A cylindrical chamber was created by sawing horizontally across the middle of the back, and then vertically from the feet to the cross-cut, with each part then hollowed out. The facial features are relatively well carved, and special attention was given to the god's crownthe two side feathers (representing ostrich plumes) were made of separate pieces of wood, and the uraeus (rearing cobra on the brow) was is crowned with a horned sun disk, more usually associated with Isis or Hathor. Seated Deity (Macuilcoatl) 15th-early 16th century Aztec This sculpture depicts a seated male with his legs drawn up to his chest. His posture is straight and open with his left forearm resting across both knees. The figures right hand, which was likely broken in antiquity or during the early Colonial period, is modeled around a small void. The figures open hand likely once held a banner, or flag-tipped staff.Bearing the image of a hand carved in shallow relief across its lower jaw, this Aztec standard bearer represents one of the pre-Hispanic deities known as the Macuiltonaleque, or "lords of the five souls" (macuil, "five" + tonalli, "soul"). By reading the glyph sculpted on the reverse of the statues head, which depicts a coiled serpent surrounded by five dots, we are able to identify this figure as Macuilcoatl, or "5 Serpent." Figure of a king as part of a group proffered by an official of Ramesses II ca. 1279-1213 B.C. The official, most of whose figure is not preserved, was shown kneeling to dedicate a shrine surmounted by the ram's head of the god Amun and fronted by a small standing image of the king. The surviving portion includes the upper part of the shrine proper, its sides decorated in raised relief with the names of Ramesses II; the small statue of the king himself; and fragments of the donor's outstretched hands (visible on either side of the shrine).. Human-headed cat ca. 945-525 B.C. Third Intermediate Period-Late Period This figure is part of a repertoire of figures created in a distinctive spotted faience from dynasty 22 into dynasty 26. The center of production was the eastern Delta, in particular Bubastis and Tanis; this was an area where Near Eastern peoples had long been interwoven in the population; at this time it was also a center for the settlement of Libyan tribal peoples. Possibly these conditions influenced this particular production. Through their appearance, the figures all allude to the goddess Bastet. In particular, many details evoke the myth termed "The Return of the Faraway Goddess." The feline / leonine Bastet was angry with the god Re and left Egypt for Nubia. Re wanted her back again, so he sent the god Thoth, who, taking the form of a monkey, lured her back with fables. Bes, musicians and dancers accompanied the train of the returning goddess, whose arrival brought the return of good fortune to Egypt. Figure

Canopic Jar of Ruiu ca. 1504-1447 B.C. New Kingdom The burial of Ruiu was found in the tomb of her father, Neferkhawet, which was excavated by the Museums Egyptian Expedition in 1935. Ruius coffin and canopic box had been placed in the east chamber of the tomb along with the burials of seven other family members. The canopic box had been badly damaged by dampness and insects, but enough was left to allow the archaeologists to reconstruct the box and its decoration and texts on paper.The box was divided into four compartments by two interlocking partitions, and the jars had been placed in these compartments. Each side of the box was decorated with the image of one of the four funerary goddesses: Isis, Nephthys, Selkit, and Neit. Statue of the Goddess Sakhmet ca. 1390-1352 B.C. New Kingdom This statue depicts Sakhmet, the goddess who represented the force of violence and unexpected disaster. Her potential for danger is symbolized by the lion's head with which she is depicted and by the sun disk she wears. Egyptian physicians saw the treatment of illness in part as appeasement of Sakhmet, and for that reason they were usually priests of the goddess. Ballgame Thin Stone Head (Hacha), 600-900. South or southeast Mesoamerica, Classic Veracruz style (600-1100). Stone, pigment traces; overall: 25.3 x 4.5 x 18.6 cm (9 15/16 x 1 3/4 x 7 5/16 in.). In contrast to other ballgame sculptures on display, it seems unlikely that thin stone heads, known as hachas, are renditions of actual ballgame gear. Their use remains unclear, but the notch at the back of most examples suggests they might have served as architectural ornaments during play or game ceremonies. Also, in a few artistic depictions of game ceremonials, such heads rest upon U-shaped hip protectors, like one nearby.

Aztec Standard Bearer. Seated on a small plinth with arms on knees and legs drawn up towards the body, this male figure wears an important headdress that was once topped with five tall tufts. The tufts, related to the crest of a great curassow, are now missing, but in the back, the head covering still hangs onto the shoulders, wherre the figure's name 5 Serpent, is carved.

Smiling head, Classic Veracruz, AD 900-1200. Such heads formed part of ceramic figurines with outstretched arms which have been found in groups surrounding high-status burials in southern Veracruz. They may represent individuals who were given an inebriating potion, perhaps cacao mixed with ololiuhqui seeds (Morning Glory; Rivea Corymbosa) to induce euphoria before being sacrificed. Classic Veracruz culture (or Gulf Coast Classic culture) refers to a cultural area in the north and central areas of the present-day Mexican state of Veracruz, a culture that existed from roughly 100 to 1000 CE, or during the Classic era

Shabti of Siptah ca. 1194-1188 B.C. New Kingdom, Ramesside Siptah, the last king of Dynasty 19, appears to have ruled along with the dowager queen Tawosret, who succeeded him briefly after his premature death. He left few monuments except his tomb and unfinished mortuary temple.This alabaster shabti of the king was found in his tomb by the American excavator Theodore Davis.
