Album with performances by and by artists mentioned in the Lexicon 'Pilkington's Dictionary of Painters', 1805 Factice album with 132 prints and one title page on 80 album blades. Factice album, that is, an album compiled by a collector or owner of the prints. This collected work is bound in four tires, with this book band as the second part. The album has been compiled with the publication of an artists of encyclopedia written by Matthew Pilkington in 1767, edited and revised by Johann Heinrich Füssli in1805, as a guideline for the collected prints. The cut texts from this book have been incorporated into the album with the album blades as Passe-Partouts. The edges of pages 173 to 352 of the second part are stuck in this way in this album. There is text in English on both sides, which remains visible through this method. The prints are stuck separately on the album blades or printed and inserted on the folios. The prints were mainly made by the artists described in the inserted text

The front and rear platform is decorated with a coat of arms and frameworks in relief. The bracts are from changing paper. The album contains 24 thick cardboard sheets of gold on cut with a total of 48 cabinet photos in Passe-Partouts. Of these, 37 listed a caption above and / or under the PASSE-partout. The majority of the cabinet photos on the back also has a caption (often in two different manuscripts) that largely corresponds to that on the Passe-Partout. The album gives an image of Amsterdam in the third quarter of the nineteenth century: streets, squares, canals and buildings. The decorations and gates that were established in the capital were also discussed on the occasion of the 25-year anniversary of King Willem III in 1874 in 1874.

Cochinchine et Cambodge 1866 Emile Gsell French The conquest of Saigon in 1859 by Admiral Rigault de Genouilly and the ensuing spread of French influence through Indochina and Cambodia was the first colonial success of the Second Empire. To commemorate the achievement the admiral, having become minister of the Navy, presented Empress Eugénie in 1867 with this luxuriously bound album of photographs entitled "Cochinchine et Cambodge." Comprising twenty-six images of Indochina and twenty-one of Cambodia, the album includes fifteen views of the ruins of Angkor. The photographs were made by M. Gsell, a Frenchman stationed in Saigon, of whom nothing more is yet known except that in June 1866 he accompanied the naval captain Doudart de Lagrée on a scientific mission along the Mekong River. The mission began with a photographic survey of Angkor. Reports of an abandoned city in the jungle had reached Europeans in 1850, and in 1863 de Lagrée conducted the first archaeological exploration of the

Sketch of a Spanish Man Edward Penfield (American, 1866-1925). Sketch of a Spanish Man, 1906. Watercolor and graphite on medium-weight, off-white, moderately textured, wove paper, sheet: 11 1/2 x 7 3/4 in. (29.2 x 19.7 cm). In these two works, Edward Penfield used controlled graphite outlines and watercolor washes to detail the tattered clothes and scruffy faces of working men he encountered during a 1906 trip through Spain. The frank realism of his approach gives his images a documentary authenticity; indeed, they were most likely studies for his illustrated travelogue Spanish Sketches (1911). While capitalizing on Americans fascination with the picturesque appeal of Spain, Penfield also endowed his subjects with a dignity reflected in their proud bearing. American Art 1906
