(equalling the Olympic record) from Herbert McKenley, Jamaica, second and M. Whitfield of the U.S.A. who was third. August 05, 1948.

Douglas Gordon Arthur Lowe (7 August 1902 30 March 1981) was a British double Olympic Games champion, winning gold medals in 1924 and 1928. Two New Records For Zatopek -- Emil Zatopek (center), at the beginning of the race in Brussels, June 1. Other runners are not identified. Emil Zatopek set up two records in Brussels last night, June 1, his third in three days. On Sunday in Paris he achieved new figures for 5,000 metres. Last night clocked 28 minutes 54.2 seconds for the 10,000 metres bettering his own previous record by 7.4 seconds. In the course of the race he also set up a new world record for six miles of 27 minutes 59.2 seco

Wife Is Olympic Training Partner.Accompanied by his attractive 18 year old wife Beverley, Dave Stephens loosens up with a training session. Dave is recognised as one of Australia's brightest hopes for a gold medal in next in next year's Olympic games. A Melbourne student, he has already established himself as one of the world's best distance runners. His wife has taken up athletics to companion her husband during training. June 1, 1955.

Jim Ryun (b. 1947), winning the 1966 Baxter Mile in the New York Athletic Club indoor games at Madison Square Garden. In 1966, Ryun set world records in the mile and the half-mile runs.

Sohn Kee-chung (Son Kijeong). His record stayed unbroken for the following 16 years. At the time, he was running on behalf of the Japanese Empire. His famous saying "I feel sad" even though he was standing at the podium of the first, because he had the japanese imperial flag on his chest.

Sohn Kee-Chung (August 29, 1912 - November 15, 2002) was an Olympic athlete and long-distance runner. He became the first ethnic Korean to win a medal at the Olympic Games, winning gold in the marathon at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
