British Canals in Wartime- Transport in Britain, 1944 Two small children ride on the 'deck' of a canal boat carrying barrels of fruit pulp along Regent's Canal in London. The pulp is being transported from a ship in the Thames along the Regent's Canal and then the Grand Union Canal to the Midlands. On the right of the photograph, damage caused by an earlier air raid can be clearly seen along the bank of the canal.

Women Run a Boat- Life on Board the Canal Barge 'heather Bell', 1942 After unloading the barge, Miss March swings the 'HEATHER BELL' around in order to head downhill towards the collieries to collect a load of slack. They will probably be travelling away from Tipton Green on the Cotterill Colliery Branch of the Birmingham Canal. This photograph appears to have been taken from the bridge which crosses the canal.
