Any big reduction in the acreage of farm land would be disastrous to Britain's larder.Using land for a dual purpose the offered a part solution to the problem in some areas. One of the most successful examples of this combined use has been mixing grazing with gunnery, so that on an artillery range up in the Welsh mountains 30,000 sheep live permanently on over 29,000 acres into which shells from 25 pounds to the latest 5.5s are pumped almost daily.
