He supports both hands on a tree trunk, which he uses as a staff and bends the upper body slightly leaning forward to the left. He looks up to the kneeling Christ child on his back, which seems to speak to him. It blesses with the right hand and holds him with the left at a lock of hair. To the right of the turbulent water a piece of bank, in which a hole. Christoffels tunic, with a belt around the waist, is closed on the chest with buttons and turned by the sleeve. Tramp. Man on a rectangular soil with the right leg forward and the left at a rocky increase. With both hands he holds a pewter flap kan against his right side, while his head is used to the right. This understanding of adolescence led to numerous depictions of children as personifications of the four seasons. Both grain and honey have been associated with summer harvests and their accompanying festivals since antiquity.

Chen-wu was associated with a powerful group of Taoist celestial marshals known as the Four Saints. These gods were perceived as spirit-guardians of the Taoist faith. Small ceramic sculptures such as this were typically used in domestic settings.

Date: mid-17th century.Carved images of death were cherished items in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century collectors' cabinets. Most were of wood, though ivory versions are known. They relate to the artistic preoccupation with death in the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The naturalistic poses, gestures, and movement of drapery date this group to the mid-seventeenth century; indeed, the composition recalls an etching of 1663 by Stefano della Bella (MMA Print Department 68.736.1). The group is carved in one piece except for the plumes on the turban. Black horse second half 18th century Italian, Naples In 1964, Loretta Hines Howard generously presented to the Museum over 140 Neapolitan crèche figures, dating from the second half of the eighteenth century. The varied assortment includes figures from the three traditional scenes of a complete Neapolitan presepio: the Nativity, with angels, shepherds, and sheep; the procession of the three Magi, with their colorful retinue of attendants; and the varied and gay crowd of country and town people thronging the tavern, or inn, of Bethlehem the diversorium mentioned by St. Luke, where on the Holy Night there was no place for Mary and Joseph. Averaging between twelve and fifteen inches in height, according to the position they were to take in perspective in the stage set, the figures are pliable and can be given poses at will, according to their facial expressions.
