Plaque ca. 1878-82 Chelsea Keramic Art Works The Chelsea Keramic Art Works was the first American ceramics firm to designate itself an "art pottery." It was founded in Chelsea, Massachusetts, by members of the Robertson family, all of whom had honed their skills in the ceramics industry in Britain before coming to this country. Robertson worked in low and high relief, on vases, plaques, and tiles. This plaque features a high relief depiction of a goddess in a chariot with wheels as sunflowers and drawn by three butterflies. It is an interpretation of the classical story of the triumph of Clytie, the nymph who fell in love with Helios and was transformed into a sunflower. The sunflower also resonated with the prevailing taste of the Aesthetic Movement, for which the sunflower was one of its iconic images. Tripod plate with mythological scene Maya 7th-8th century Three hollow feet support this exceptionally large, polychrome feasting plate. The outer cream walls of its sloping rim are painted with watery motifs in black, including swirls, registers of droplets, and waterlily vegetation. The three feet of the vessel feature vertical rows of dotted lines. Each foot evokes a vertical deluge, and columns of rain appear to emerge from the plate itself and spill out of the watery milieu on its exterior. The delicate main scene on the upper surface would only have been visible at close range by those positioned directly above the plate. It features the Maya Rain God, Chahk, waist-deep in a register of watery motifs and hieroglyphs for nahb, sea. From him grows three vegetal branches that morph into deities and other beings such as a roaring jaguar. Hieroglyphic texts and other motifs on the inner slope of the plates wide rim surround the Rain God. This plate was painted in what is known as the

Plate 1791 Sèvres Manufactory French Porcelain decorated with a black ground in imitation of Asian lacquer was produced at Sèvres for about a fifteen-year period beginning in 1790. Furniture decorated with imported black lacquer panels saw a resurgence of popularity in the last two decades of the eighteenth century, and the Sèvres factory's efforts to simulate black lacquer on porcelain were probably stimulated by this renewed general interest in lacquer decoration. Black-ground Sèvres porcelain was decorated with chinoiserie scenes executed in gold, which was often applied in subtle tones of yellow, green, and red. Tin-glazed earthenware dish; moulded and painted in polychrome. London; Southwark - Several dishes of this type; depicting a recumbent Venus and cherubs dated between 1633 and 1697. Based on a 16th century design attributed to the French potter; Bernard Palissy.

. The central medallion is filled with a particularly detailed painting of Diana, goddess of the yacht, which rests with its nymphs on the edge of a river opposite a waterfall. In the Netherlands, "Diana was resting with her nymphs" from the 17th century a particularly popular theme, which was not only depicted frequently on paintings but also on impeller blades (cf. tent.cat. This charger, or large plate, is an example of English delftware, a kind of tin-glazed earthenware made with techniques similar to those used to produce ceramics in the town of Delft in Holland. Date: second half 13th century.This frieze tile is molded in low relief and painted in luster over an opaque white ground with accents of turquoise and cobalt blue. The background presents a lush landscape of vegetal motifs and birds in flight, while in the foreground two horsemen stab a deer with their swords. The figures wear luxurious clothes, and the artist has taken care to depict different textile patterns on each.
