The caption for this illustration that dates to around 1865 reads: All the attention of the little fair-haired boy appeared absorbed by a copy-book, in the leaves of which he was arranging some plants and flowers. The scen in is a poor village in Sweden in November in 1719. The boy is Carl Linnaeus, a Swedish botanist, physician, and zoologist. His father was a pastor and is seen here at left reading the bible and commenting , form time to time, on them to his family. To the right is his mother, knitting stockings with wooden needles. Carpenter and his son; A Father's lessons on the Illustrated Wall-Papers. A carpenter in his workplace addresses his son on the basis of prints that hang behind him. This "illustrated Wall-Papers" were sold per set and often had a moralizing message.

Portrait of Wenzel Jamnitzer, busy with perspective calculations. Wenzel Jamnitzer is portrayed as scholar, with objects that refer to his scientific interest in the teaching of the perspective. With this branch of science, he has actually been concerned about. He developed the instrument for perspective signs that he demonstrates here, and gave his "perspectiva corporum regularium" in 1568.
