This image from NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is of Saheki Crater, about 84 kilometers across, and located in the Southern highlands of Mars, to the north of Hellas Planitia.

Stained kidney tissue. The kidney is an essential organ responsible for removing waste from the body and maintaining healthy levels of ions in the blood. It also secretes two hormones, erythropoietin (EPO) and calcitriol (a vitamin D derivative), into the blood. It functions as a purifier by drawing felt breakdown products, such as urea and ammonium, out of the blood stream to excrete them in the urine.

This infrared global map of Saturn's icy moon Enceladus was created using images acquired by NASA's Cassini spacecraft. It is a companion to the global views presented in PIA24023. It combines infrared maps obtained by the spacecraft's Visual and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (VIMS), published by Robidel et al. (2020), and the visible map from the Imaging Science Subsystem (ISS), published by Bland et al. (2018). The colors used in this map represent infrared data collected by the VIMS instrument. The red color channel corresponds to a ratio of Enceladus' brightness observed at 3.1 microns divided by its brightness at 1.65 microns; the green channel corresponds to the brightness at 2.0 microns; and the blue channel corresponds to the brightness at 1.8 microns. These colors highlight the location of fresh crystalline ice, indicated by a red tint. NASAs Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has captured more than 13,000 images of the red planets surface. And now, the space agency wants your input on what images to acquire next. The High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HI RISE) camera is currently the most powerful camera on any NASA spacecraft. The images it has collected are truly amazing. They highlight how similar the Martian landscape is to Earth in some ways, as well as how otherworldly other parts of Mars can seem. Weve collected just a few of the oddest and most beautiful shots. If they inspire you to want to pick the next strange location for HI RISE to focus on, NASA has created a website where you can scan the planets surface and make suggestions.
