Clara Whiting, Research Associate with Texas A&Ms Natural Resource Institute, removes another balloon from endangered species breeding grounds. May 16, 2022, at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis, Texas. The balloons are the most pervasive types of trash encountered at Camp Bullis. In large part, since Camp Bullis is closed to the public, there is very little litter. However, the balloons float in or get washed down the stream and snag in trees. So far for the past three months, they have collected 236 balloons.

Reportage on organic producers working using a community-shared agriculture model in Haute-Savoie, France. Rémi has been an organic fruit and vegetable grower since 2011. In 2013 he was contacted by some consumers to create a community-supported agriculture model. He grows 35 types of vegetables throughout the year and only works with a local distribution network: selling directly to consumers. As well as working with organic agriculture, he is setting up a permaculture system. Permaculture is a set of practices aimed at creating low-energy consumption agriculture, which respects living beings and their relationships, by leaving as much space as possible for "wild" nature. As a federal agency, the Portland District provides certain protections to wildlife at Corps reservoirs, and the search for turtles and turtle nests is part of an effort to protect a native species, the northwestern pond turtle, which is experiencing rapid population decline. When biologists find a turtle nest, theyll remove the nest plug the mother turtle created, and gently poke the eggs. If the eggs are firm, like a chicken egg, biologists know the nest belongs to the northwestern pond turtle. If the eggs are softer and dimple under pressure, the nest belongs to an invasive species of turtle, the red-eared slider.
