Government officials and river stakeholders visited the Montgomery Locks and Dam on the Ohio River in Monaca, Pennsylvania, Aug. 18. The visit intended to provide the group with a tour of the facility and promote discussion of the $857 million funding the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District received as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The Upper Ohio Navigation project is part of the National Economic Development plan for improving the Upper Ohio River Navigation. The Emsworth and Dashields locks and dams, two other vital locks and dams on the Ohio River, will also receive money for improvements from the BIL.

On Thursday, February 10, 2022, move crews at NASAs Michoud Assembly Facility lift the core stage 3 liquid oxygen tank (LOX) aft barrel out of the vertical friction stir weld tool to be moved for its next phase of production. Eventually, the aft barrel will be mated with the forward barrel and forward and aft domes to create the LOX tank, which will be used for the Space Launch Systems Artemis III mission. The LOX tank holds 196,000 gallons of super-cooled liquid oxygen to help fuel four RS-25 engines.The SLS core stage is made up of five unique elements: the forward skirt, liquid oxygen tank, intertank, liquid hydrogen tank, and the engine section. The liquid oxygen hardware, along with the liquid hydrogen tank will provide propellant to the four RS-25 engines to produce more than two million pounds of thrust to help launch NASAs Orion spacecraft, astronauts, and supplies beyond Earths orbit to the Moon.

U.S. Army Corps technicians found the damage to a lower guide wheel July 25, 2022, and began repairs immediately, while maintaining lock operations, limiting the impact on the passage of commercial and recreational vessels.John Day Lock & Dam is located 216 miles upriver from the mouth of the Columbia River near the city of Rufus, Ore.Dedicated in 1968, construction of John Day Lock & Dam was completed in 1971. The project, which consists of a navigation lock, spillway, powerhouse and fish passage facilities, is authorized for navigation and hydroelectric power generation. Various recreational facilities are provided along Lake Umatilla and the John Day River.

Inside the Multi-Operations Support Building near the Multi-Payload Processing Facility (MPPF) at NASAs Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Aug. 16, 2019, a row of Self-Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensemble (SCAPE) suits are hanging inside a changing room. SCAPE technicians are practicing putting on their suits for a test simulation of loading propellants into a replicated test tank for Orion. Exploration Ground Systems is preparing for Artemis 1 with a series of hazardous hyper test events at the MPPF. After donning their suits, the technicians will complete a tanking to test the system before Orion arrives for processing.
