April 1, 2011, U.S. Marines with 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Battalion Landing Team (BLT), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), pull debris from the water during a humanitarian assistance/disaster relief mission at Uranohama Port, Oshima Island, Japan, in support of Operation Tomodachi. The 31st MEU's involvement is part of a larger U.S. government response, after a 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck Japan causing widespread damage. The 31st MEU is ready to support our Japanese partners and to provide assistance when called upon.

MOORE, Okla. (May 22, 2013) Sailor's from Task Force 124 volunteer in support of recovery efforts in Moore, Okla., after an EF5 tornado. Task Force 124, also known as TACAMO (TAke Charge And Move Out), is located at Tinker Air Force Base, Okla., and is responsible to Commander Naval Air Forces for manning, training and equipping the Navy squadrons responsible for nuclear command and control communications to the nation's nuclear triad mission.

Rising flood waters are devastating downtown Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Friday, June 13, 2008. The Iowa Air National Guard was mobilized to provide assistance for the flooding in Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Des Moines, Iowa. The Air Guard and Army Guard joined forces to help in law enforcement duties, sand bagging flooded areas and providing general assistance to the public.

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. (Nov. 4, 2012) Constructionman Collyn Schagenhauff, from Omaha, Neb., assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 11, connects a steel cable from a medium tactical vehicle replacement (MTVR) to a speedboat that was flipped on its side from Hurricane Sandy during relief efforts in Seaside Heights. NMCB-11 is operating under the U.S. Northern Command Defense Support of Civil Authorities mission, working closely with civil authorities and the Federal Emergency Management Agency following the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy.
