ANNAPOLIS, Md. (April 22, 2022) U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen in the Naval Weapon Systems (EW300) course participate in an explosives demonstration outside of Rickover Hall. The course uses the "detect to engage" framework to examine each part of the finding, fixing, targeting, engaging and assessing process. The purpose of the demonstration is to combine the processes learned throughout the semester in order to simulate the real-world deployment of missiles, torpedoes, grenades or warheads, using balloons and the application of heat.

Over half of the evacuees that came to Fort Pickett have been resettled. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible. This initiative provides Afghan personnel essential support at secure locations outside Afghanistan.

Over 150 community members, city council officials, mayors, and family members visited Storck Barracks during a bicycle tour held annually on Whit Monday, June 6, 2022. The visit included a tour of a UH-60L Blackhawk, HH-60M MEDEVAC Blackhawk, CH-47 Chinook, and the dining facility on Stork Barracks.

Exercise operations are shown Aug. 12, 2022, at Fort McCoy, Wis., for the 86th Training Division's Combat Support Training Exercise (CSTX) 86-22-02. The exercise took place in August 2022 at Fort McCoy at various locations throughout the installation. Around 4,000 service members participated in the exercise. The CSTX is a joint training event executed in a live, virtual, and constructive integrated training environment where service members test their tactical and technical skills.

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - "Astronauts" were safely and successfully recovered from a "downed" Space Shuttle in a Mode VII contingency simulation led by Don Hammel, NASA Landing and Recovery Director. KSC Fire/Rescue and Emergency Medical workers, along with Johnson Space Center and Patrick Air Force Base personnel, participated in the drill. Mode simulations are held periodically at KSC to ensure contingency response forces are well prepared to respond to a wide variety of potential emergency situations.

Teams are providing assistance to the more than 900 family members who arrived at SEATAC from Japan today as part of Operation Tomodachi. A projected 6,800 family members are expected to arrive at SEATAC as part of Operation Tomodachi on 20 separate flights.
