The Lebaudy Patrie, semi-rigid airship, built for the French army in Moisson, France, by sugar producers Lebaudy Freres. Designed by Henri Julliot, Lebaudy's chief engineer, the Patrie was completed in November 1906 and handed over to the military the following month. The Patrie bears the distinction of being the first airship ordered for military service by the French army.,

First Start of The New German Airship - On March 4th the new German giant airship "L.Z. 129" started for the first trial trip. Under the leadership of the world famous Dr. Eckener the Zeppelin made a fly of about 3 hours from 13.19 until 18.25. New trial-trips will take place during the next days, if the weather will be good enough. March 05, 1936.

This was an enlarged version of the original Nulli Secundus and used the same Antoinette Engine. The airship was only operated for around two months before being scrapped.

Aviation in Britain Before the First World War Nulli Secundus I on the ground near the airship shed with soldiers, handlers and a horse and cart. Cody was responsible for the design of the nacelle and spar frame that attached the nacelle to the airship envelope and kept the latter rigid. The construction of the frame from hickory, spruce and bamboo followed similar lines to the methods used for his kites and gliders. It was in this airship that Cody and Colonel Capper of the Balloon School at Aldershot made their record breaking flight from Farnborough to London. The journey of 40 miles took three hours twenty five minutes and included circling St Paul's Cathedral. It finished at the cycle stadium next to Crystal Palace. At the time this was a world record for a non-rigid airship. Colonel Capper was instrumental in the War Office deciding to use Cody's man carrying kites and appointing him as instructor. After this their relationship soured, due partly to Capper's bias towards airships

A photograph of two Zeppelins in a hangar. Referred to as "German dreadnoughts of the Air" a Zeppelin is a type of rigid airship created originally from the concepts of Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin in the early 20th century. First flown commercially in 1910, and used extensively as bombers in the First World War by the Germans. Experienced popularity as a method of flight in the 1930s, but the 1937 Hindenburg disaster, as well as political/economic issues, began the downturn in use of Zeppelins.

Aviation in Britain Before the First World War Cody aircraft mark II flying far in the distance above 'A' and 'B' airship sheds. Cody built this aircraft in 1910; the previous aircraft had been in several crashes and was suffering generally from constant usage. The design of this aircraft followed similar lines to the previous one though the wingspan was shorter by around six feet and the wing area around a third smaller. The single propeller was originally intended to be powered by two 60 hp Green engines (mark IIA) though problems with synchronicity meant that this was never carried out. This did mean that the aircraft was underpowered though alterations to the engine and the removal of excess weight partly solved this problem (marks IIB to IID). When this engine was replaced with a 120 hp Austro-Daimler, the aircraft performed well, and in January 1912 carried Cody and four passengers. It was eventually crashed by Lieut. J N Fletcher on the 5th April whilst Cody was teaching him to
