STS080-759-075 (19 Nov.-7 Dec. 1996) --- This 70mm handheld camera's panoramic view was photographed by the STS-80 crewmembers to capture the aesthetic side of space travel. The scene was in the South Pacific Ocean southwest of Hawaii and west of Christmas Island. The angle of the space shuttle Columbia and the sunglint feature gives the picture an almost three-dimensional affect.

ISS031-E-041657 (20 May 2012) --- Photographed by the Expedition 31 crew aboard the International Space Station and easily spotted at top center in this image is the smoky gray shadow of the moon, cast on bright clouds of the northern Pacific Ocean. The eclipse is seen obliquely, with its center more than 1600 kilometers away, so it appears as a flattened circle. Images taken three minutes earlier near the point of closest approach (slightly more than 600 kilometers) to the track of the eclipse, show the shadow as a rounder shape. The crew onboard the station looked due north towards the Aleutian Islands, where the solar eclipse was near total. Twenty-three minutes later, as they approached Antarctica in the other hemisphere, the crew members saw the sun set as they passed onto the dark side of the planet. STS070-701-070 (13-22 JULY 1995) --- Dark surfaces of lunar mare can be identified on the tiny Moon in the center of this clear 35mm frame, recorded by crew members aboard the Earth-orbiting Space Shuttle Discovery. A variety of cloud-types obscure land and water in the scene. Several tropical storms and tropical depressions were observed by the crew during its nine-day mission.

AS10-34-5010 (18 May 1969) --- This photograph of Earth was taken from the Apollo 10 spacecraft shortly after trans-lunar insertion. The counter-clockwise arrangement of the cloud formations indicates a northern hemisphere view, although insufficient amounts of land are visible for exact location.

ISS039-E-014807 (22 April 2014) --- As the International Space Station passed over the Bering Sea on Earth Day, one of the Expedition 39 crew members aboard the orbital outpost shot thispanoramic scene looking toward Russia. The Kamchatka Peninsula can be seen in the foreground.Sunglint is visible on the left side of the frame.Only two points of view from Earth orbit were better for taking in this scene than that of the crew member with the camera inside, and those belonged to the two spacewalking astronauts -- Flight Engineers Rick Mastracchio and Steve Swanson of NASA.

The first rays of an orbital sunrise begin illuminating Earth's atmosphere in this photograph from the International Space Station as it orbited 267 miles above the southern Pacific Ocean.

STS005-14-514 (11-16 Nov. 1982) --- This 35mm frame, taken against sunglint, shows clouds over the Pacific Ocean. A Nikon F-3 35mm modified camera and Type 5017, medium speed Ektachrome film were used to record the frame. Approximately 20 frames of 35mm and several dozen frames of 70mm photography of Earth were exposed on the week-long mission aboard the space shuttle Columbia (STS-5).

STS085-502-078 (7 - 19 August 1997) --- The southern coastline of seldom-seen Iceland can be detected under cloud, top right in this dramatic west-looking view. Iceland's capital city, Reykjavik, lies on the cape that projects furthest left (i.e. southwest) in this view. Along the southeast margin (nearest to the viewer), Iceland's largest icecap, Vatnajkull, appears as a white mass with a texture different to the spotty cumulus cloud. At the closest point, Greenland only lies 170 miles to the northwest of Iceland -- and under a hand lens, hundreds of miles of the east coast of Greenland can be seen stretching across the top of this view. Taken with the large format Linhof camera, the enormous clarity of the air on this day allowed the crew to photograph Iceland which lies 400 miles and more north of the northernmost point which the Space Shuttle Discovery attained (57.5 degrees north latitude). August 18, 2007 - Crewmembers on the Space Shuttle Endeavour captured this image around Noon CDT of Hurricane Dean in the Caribbean. At the time the shuttle and International Space Station passed overhead, the Category 4 storm was moving westerly at 17 mph nearing Jamaica carrying sustained winds of 150 mph.

STS077-702-039 (19-29 May 1996) --- The Space Shuttle Endeavours Canadian-built Remote Manipulator System (RMS) arm is extended against a panoramic Earth/space background. In a traditional gesture, the view was chosen by the crew members to represent their unique position to view such scenes. A lengthy portion of the South African coast in Sun glint and a Sun burst/flare effect flank the end effector of the RMS.

ISS007-E-05379 (11 May 2003) --- The moon seems to be floating inside Earths atmosphere as it was photographed by an Expedition 7 crewmember onboard the International Space Station (ISS) while above Russia. Its an illusion, of course. The moon is really a quarter of a million miles away. The picture is tricky because of its uneven lighting. The suns elevation angle is only 6 degrees. On the left side of the image, night is falling; on the right side, its still broad daylight. This gradient of sunlight is the key to the illusion.

iss062e005579 (Feb. 11, 2020) --- The Strait of Gibraltar connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea and separates Spain on the European continent from Morocco on the African continent. The International Space Station was orbiting 265 miles above the Atlantic off the coast of Lisbon, Portugal, when this photograph was taken.

ISS041-E-016909 (17 Sept. 2014) --- Much of northeastern USA is visible in the lower land mass in this frame and a large portion of the Great Lakes area is visible near center and top in the oblique photograph taken by one of the Expedition 41 crew members aboard the International Space Station on Sept. 17. A 38mm focal length was used to record several pictures in this sequence as the orbital outpost was flying 221 miles above the Atlantic Ocean.

May 16, 2009 - This high oblique Earth scene from the STS-125 crew is reminiscent of Gemini 11 photos 43 years ago,because of similar altitudes, approximately 350 statute miles. The Florida peninsula and its neighboring geographic features are easily recognizable beneath the clouds along with the tell-tale change in water color associated with the Tongue of the Ocean.

STS095-E-5041 (30 Oct. 1998) --- PANSAT, a nonrecoverable satellite developed by the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California, is silhouetted against a sunglint effect on ocean waters below, following its deployment from the cargo bay of the Earth-orbiting Space Shuttle Discovery. The small ball-shaped payload is basically a tiny telecommunications satellite. The photo was recorded with an electronic still camera (ESC) at 1:49:33 GMT, Oct. 30.

S63-06443 (15-16 May 1963) --- A northwest-looking view across Pakistan, eastern Iran and Afghanistan as photographed from the Mercury-Atlas 9 (MA-9) capsule by astronaut L. Gordon Cooper Jr., during his 22-orbit MA-9 spaceflight.

STS064-83-099 (9-20 Sept. 1994) --- Multiple thunderstorm cells leading to Earth's atmosphere were photographed on 70mm by the astronauts, orbiting aboard the space shuttle Discovery 130 nautical miles away. These thunderstorms are located about 16 degrees southeast of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean. Every stage of a developing thunderstorm is documented in this photo; from the building cauliflower tops to the mature anvil phase. The anvil or the tops of the clouds being blown off are at about 50,000 feet. The light line in the blue atmosphere is either clouds in the distance or an atmospheric layer which is defined but different particle sizes.
