The occasion is the kickoff of the NASA Explorer School program at the school. The Marine Forces Reserve Band demonstrated their talents at Allen High School in Allen, Tx. on Oct. 11, 2022. Instruments in hand, they put on a great display of concert, jazz, and brass music for the students within the schools own band program. The band is located in New Orleans and derives a lot of their electrifying performances from the vibrant culture within the streets of Louisiana. The Musician Enlistment Option Program (MEOP) gives young men and women the opportunity to fight and win our Nations battles while pursuing their passion for music.

Bridgepeort, Conn., May 2, 2013 Over 130 fifth grade students from Bridgeport's public schools were recognized on April 9 for completing the Student Tools for Emergency Planning (STEP) program. The STEP program was developed by FEMA, and is implemented by the State of Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, the American Red Cross and RYASAP (Regional Youth Adult Social Action Partnership). STEP's goal is to prepare families for multiple hazards by educating and energizing students to act as leaders in their homes by implementing key preparedness strategies with their families. The team received the Regional Chairman's Award, described as going to the team judged to have created the best partnership effort among team participants and to have best exemplified the true meaning of FIRST. The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges teams of young people and their mentors to solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard "kit of parts" and a common set of rules. Teams build robots from the parts and enter them in a series of competitions. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, FLA. - At the KSC Visitor Complex, past and present recipients of college scholarships awarded by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation stand up to be recognized by the audience. The occasion was the induction ceremony of four Space Shuttle astronauts into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame, including Daniel Brandenstein, Robert "Hoot" Gibson, Story Musgrave, and Sally K. Ride. The Foundation awards 17 scholarships annually, each worth $8,500, to students interested in studying science and engineering. Since 1984, more than $1.7 million in scholarship funds have been awarded.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Pink Team participates in the regional FIRST robotics competition at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. The team is made up of students from Rockledge, Cocoa Beach and Viera high schools along the Space Coast of Florida. NASAs Kennedy Space Center is a sponsor of the team. The Pink Team finished sixth in the competition called "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology," or FIRST, among about 60 high school teams hoping to advance to the national robotics championship. The KSC team is composed of Cocoa Beach and Rockledge High School students. The event hosted 41 teams from Canada, Brazil, Great Britain and the United States. Among observers at the annual event were Center Director Jim Kennedy and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who spoke at the event luncheon. FIRST is a nonprofit organization, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, that sponsors the event pitting gladiator robots against each other in an athletic-style competition. The FIRST robotics competition is designed to provide students with a hands-on, inside look at engineering and other professional careers, pairing high school students with engineer mentors and corporations.

The Sally Ride event promotes science, math and technology as future career paths for girls. Former astronaut Sally Ride addressed the girls, while breakout sessions afforded closer interaction between Ride and festival attendees.

Howard Bishop Middle School is one of 50 nationwide (four in Florida) in the NASA Explorer Schools (NES) Program. NES establishes a three-year partnership between NASA and 50 NASA Explorer Schools teams, consisting of teachers and education administrators from diverse communities nationwide.
