. By structure the composition with the centrally placed olive tree, this print can be compared to Escher's San Gimignano (1922). In both prints, the surfaces are defined by the direction of the arrangements. This creates a rotating movement that sucks the look inside, leaving the tree monumental. Although there is a relationship in appearance, the sources are different. For scratch wood this was cubism, while it was the new art for Escher (Dutch Art Nouveau).
