Date: 1815-35.Glass, elaborately cut or engraved in a variety of patterns based on English Regency styles, was in vogue for fine tableware during the early nineteenth century. This elegant sugar bowl and its related cream pitcher reveal a sophisticated alternative to cutting: the manipulation of the clear, colorless glass in its molten state. The vessels combine multiple decorative techniques characteristic of three New England factories that were producing stylish wares during the 1820s and 1830s. The predominant feature is the tooled horizontal ribbing on a second gather, or applied layer, of glass, which was drawn upward into the ribs with a sharp tool to create a swag pattern. Tumbler 1797 Paul Revere Jr. American This set of four tumblers or small drinking cups (58.3.1-.4) was made for the Salem, Massachusetts merchant Elias Hasket Derby (1739-1799) and descended in his family. They are among the "12 Silver tumblers" that Revere supplied to Derby in 1797. Their plain, slightly rounded bodies with engraved borders were made to match a set of four cups already owned by Derby, marked by the Parisian silversmith Denis Colombier in 1789. The similarities are striking, although the French originals are more intricately engraved. These objects illustrate both the influence of French design on late eighteenth-century American taste and the role of the patron in commissioning silver. One of the Colombier beakers (67.94) also belongs to the Museum, offering the opportunity to compare copies to their original source.. Tumbler 427

Silver Dish 3rd century Late Roman This silver dish, found with the patera in this case (47.100.29), was worked on a lathe to create the decorative concentric circles on its interior. Its precise function is unclear. Objects of this type have appeared among sixth-century church vessels in the Byzantine east, where they were used as patens to carry the Eucharist. A similar example is depicted on a fourth-century sarcophagus from Rome, which shows the dish being used for hand-washing.. Silver Dish 468190

Bread basket, the wall fully open with flower vines, Wijnand Warneke (attributed to), 1770 The oval, flat bottom is contained in the cast bottom edge, which is made up of palm leaves reminded of C-Voluten, with a leg in the middle of each side, on the long sides in the form of a volute from which a flower branch blooms and on the Short sides in the form of volutes above which a foam head. The vaulted wall is fully opened with asymmetrical, engraved flower vines, which follow the same pattern on the long and on the short sides. The cast upper edge is again formed by C-Voluten, separated by flower branches under a foam head. The ears built from Voluten are decorated with flowers. On the bottom engraved the shared weapon Holbech/Hood for Hugh Holbech, who married Hon 4-1-1838. Jane Sarah Hood, third daughter of Second Baron Bridport (died 8-6-1849), above which the Holbech helmet sign against a background of Acanthus leaves. . The driven dish is equipped with an ornament plated from a stamp form, consisting of three flying deer with spread wings, to the edge mutually connected by stylized antlers and granulated flat portions. This decoration is interspersed by three unprocessed surfaces with a smooth, flatbolle nop in the middle and that are closed by a rib. The scale has a thickened edge and is placed on a round base in which two holes are arranged locally on the wall.

Ewer and basin, Johannes Grill, 1649 The round, curved scale has a wide edge, with a corrugated, double bulges interrupted contour. It is driven with four large irregularly shaped fields in the flat and four small, heart -shaped fields in the edge. The fields are surrounded by lists composite from soft ornaments, intervened with draperies. Monster heads appear from these lists in a number of places. The large fields are decorated with allegorical representations of a combination of the seasons and the ages of humans.
