The hands-on portion of the certification consisted of three simulated scenarios: stopping a one-ton container, typically used for storage, from leaking chlorine from its fusible plugs; the transportation of hazardous materials by rail; and bolting down an unstable cylinder, which contained nitrogen.

The skills taught during CBRN Survival Skills prepare Air Commandos for the possibility of a CBRN related attack. Without it, Airmen could be left vulnerable to terrorist or state use of CBRN weapons. CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - An emergency exit, or Mode II/IV, exercise is under way at the slidewire basket landing site of Launch Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The exercise involves NASA fire rescue personnel, volunteers portraying astronauts with simulated injuries, helicopters and personnel from the Air Forces 920th Rescue Wing, and medical trauma teams at three Central Florida hospitals. The drill allows teams to practice an emergency response at the launch pad, including helicopter evacuation to local hospitals.
