Cerdan was 1¼lb. overweight and had to ***** £500 forfeit as per contract. March 29, 1949.

The End of The Road For Tommy -- Nearly the end... Tommy Farr, right eye closed, face a red smear, takes another crushing blow to the face from Lloyd Marshall in the last round of the fight.A shadow of the old Tommy Farr left the ring, his face battered and bruised into a crimson smear after he had been very easily outpointed by the American Negro Lloyd Marshall at the Market Hall. The fight revealed very little of the old ***** and fury of Tommy Farr. It did reveal a certain amount of his skill in evasive action. He several times made Marshall miss wildly. Tommy used a long, point-brush-like left, but only once did he land a really solid blow. December 17, 1950.

Right: P. Gallagher (Wellington) evades a left-hand punch by R. Clarke (Auckland) in the semi-finals of the light heavy-weight championship. Clarke was the winner. In the final he beat R. Roy Ankarah Keeps His Title -- Roy Ankarah is still featherweight champion of the British Empire. In their fight at Nottingham last night his challenger, Ronnie Clayton, retired at the end of the thirteenth round. Though on the defensive Clayton appeared to be holding his own during most of the fight but collapsed after a left hook to the stomach in the thirteenth round. Wilson withdrew this amount from his savings account on Saturday and asked Bill McConnell to invest it for him. McConnell, who expect Clarke to be 6 to 4, thinks that Wilson will be able to deposit £250 back in the bank tomorrow morning. Clarke has had more fights than Wilson and is a harder puncher.
