A ship that is to carry trains over sixty-five miles of open sea: the train-ferry "Deutschland", 1909.'The "Deutschland" is one of the four British-built train-ferries that are to carry trains between Sassnitz in Germany and Trelleborg in Sweden, a distance of sixty-five miles. The train that is to be conveyed across the sea will enter the after end of the vessel from a specially constructed landing-stage, and will be disembarked on to a similar landing-stage. New Tanker for Royal Australian Navy -- The 17,700-ton fast replenishment tanker "Tide Austral" seen leaving Messrs. On 6 January 1897 the Royal Indian Marine troopship RIMS Warren Hastings left Cape Town (South Africa) bound for Mauritius. On the 14 January 1897, eight miles off course and traveling at a speed of 12.5 knots, in pitch dark, pouring rain and thick fog, ran straight into the rocks on the coastline of R鵮ion, (Indian Ocean). Carrying 993 passengers, only resulted in two deaths. Date: 14 January 1897

Unprotected cruiser "Arturo Prat". Built by Armstrong Whitworth & Co Ltd (Elswick, Newcastle, England) for the Chilean Navy. Its construction began in 1879, during the War of the Pacific, being launched in 1880. Because of the conflict, the warship was not delivered to Chile.
