Blackout Accessories For Sale, Selfridge's, London, England, C 1940 A display at Selfridge's department store in London advertises the various accessories available for use in the blackout. Included here are two types of luminous arm band, luminous discs and button badges, and luminous adhesive tape which could be added to the edges of clothing. The aim was to make the wearer more visible to pedestrians and vehicles in the blackout.

Symbolic destruction of pass books a feature of the South African, pass laws were a form of internal passport system designed to segregate the population, manage urbanisation, and allocate migrant labour. Also known as the natives law, pass laws severely limited the movements of not only black African citizens, but other people as well by requiring them to carry pass books when outside their homelands or designated areas

Manuscript of the Hadiqat al-Su`ada (Garden of the Blessed) of Fuzuli Muhammad bin Sulayman, known as Fuzuli (ca. 1483-1556). Manuscript of the Hadiqat al-Su`ada (Garden of the Blessed) of Fuzuli, AH 1011 / 1602-3 C.E. Opaque watercolor, ink and gold on paper; leather binding, 5 1/2 x 9 3/4 in. (14 x 24.8 cm). This manuscript is a copy of the sixteenth-century Hadiqat al-Sucada (Garden of the Blessed), written in Baghdad by the Ottoman mystic Muhammad bin Sulayman, known as Fuzuli (circa 1483-1556). It is a text on the Prophets family and belongs to a group of illustrated devotional manuscripts executed in a provincial style in Baghdad under the patronage of the Ottoman sultan Mehmet III (r. 1595-1603). Here, the Prophet is shown veiled and seated on a pulpit, accompanied by his cousin and son-in-law, cAli, and his grandchildren, Hasan and Husayn, all distinguished by haloes of fire. Image of the foot control of the mobile phone installation in the CRVL post (Central Radio Traffic Control) in the N.S. station Usquert in Usquert.n.b. The CRVL was introduced on October 29, 1967 at the Sauwerd-Roodeschool track section, with a central post in Usquert. The CRVL post in Usquert was moved to the station in Groningen in 1969. In September 1983, the CRVL was replaced by VCVL (simplified central traffic control) following the railway accident in Winsum on July 25, 1980 (see AtlantisNrs. 155782-155784).

War H.Q. to be Preserved -- "Heart of the Battle" - Mr. Churchill's office in his bedroom at the secret war Headquarters. It is from here that the momentous broadcasts were made.The secret underground War Headquarters of the War Cabinet and the Chiefs of Staff, in Marshall, Street, Westminster, are to be preserved for their historic interest. The war map room, the Cabinet room, and the room from which Mr. Churchill made many of his inspired broadcasts are included in the plan of preservation. March 17, 1948.

Books in Wartime, 1942 These two books demonstrate the changes that have occurred in the layout and production of books, in the interest of paper economy. The book in the foreground is a pre-war book, with wide margins visible all around the pages. The book in the background has been produced in wartime and has narrow margins, the type going almost right up to the edge of the page.

Jonas Platt Samuel Finley Breese Morse (American, 1791-1872). Jonas Platt, 1828. Oil on canvas, 35 15/16 x 29 7/16 in. (91.3 x 74.8 cm). Samuel F.B. Morse was at the peak of his career when he portrayed Jonas Platt, who is presented as a soberly dressed man of affairs, with book and documents nearby, facing us in a confident yet thoughtful manner. The drapery and glimpse of sky are scaled-down elements drawn from grandmanner portraiture and signal Platt's prominence.The sitter and artist were both active in politics and concerned with the application of scientific and technological advances to national purpose. Platt had been an early promoter of the Erie Canal, and Morse was not only the finest portrait painter in New York, but an inventor as well. A decade after completing this work, Morse retired from his artistic career to devote himself to the development of the telegraph. American Art 1828
