The Hurricane of 1900 made landfall on September 8, 1900, in the city of Galveston, Texas, in the United States. It had estimated winds of 145 miles per hour (233 km/h) at landfall, making it a Category 4 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. It was the deadliest hurricane in US history. The hurricane caused great loss of life with the estimated death toll between 6,000 and 12,000 individuals; the number most cited in official reports is 8,000, giving the storm the third-highest number of deaths or injuries of any Atlantic hurricane, after the Great Hurricane of 1780 and 1998's Hurricane Mitch. The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 is the deadliest natural disaster ever to strike the United States. Fashoda Incident (1898), now Kodok (South Sudan). Conflict of interests between France and Great Britain. Both countries planned to build lines of communication so that their colonial possessions would be uninterruptedly linked. Both powers sent military expeditions to defend their interests, which coincided at Fashoda. The French expedition, outnumbered, were forced to retreat, allowing British control of the Sudan region. Arrival of the Anglo-Egyptian contingent at Fashoda, led by field marshal Kitchener, on 21 September 1898. The fleet consisted of five steamers, two of which were gunboats, three Sudanese battalions, one hundred Scottish troops and Maxim artillery system. Photoengraving by Laporta. WW1 - HMS E13 was a British E class submarine. Due to a compass failure, it ran aground on the Danish Island of Saltholm in the Oresund. It was then attacked by German torpedo boats on 19th August 1915 off Copenhagen, Denmark. Some men are seen here to be overboard and drowning, as others look on from the E13. Date: 1915

Atomic Bomb Test during Operation Crossroads. Between 1946 and 1958 the United States experimented with nuclear weapons on Bikini Island in the Pacific. On 25 July 1946 an atomic bomb was exploded underwater along the coast. These images were printed in large format in Life magazine, with the caption: It was perhaps the most awesome man-made spectacle ever photographed.’ These photographs allowed the public at large to see the destructive power of the atomic bomb for the first time.

The Siege of Tsingtao was the attack on the German-controlled port of Tsingtao (now Qingdao) in China during World War I by Imperial Japan and the United Kingdom. It took place between 31 October and 7 November 1914 and was fought by Imperial Japan and the United Kingdom against Germany. It was the first encounter between Japanese and German forces, and also the first Anglo-Japanese operation during the war.
