French Navy Bathscafe Dives 13,288 Feet In Atlantic --The French Navy Bathyscafe FNRS3, shown leaving Dakar on the west coast of Africa to make a test dive Jan. 27, today plunged 13,288 feet below the surface of the Atlantic at that port. The French Naval officers rode the diving bell down, descending farther than man has gone before. The dive passed the depth record set last Sept. 30 by Prof. Auguste Piccard and his son, Jacques, at 10,339 feet. Aboard the craft above is an engineer, not further identified. February 15, 1954.
