"Mauritius" Ordered To Vicinity Of Abadan -- A stock picture of the cruiser "Mauritius" seen in Trieste Harbor, May, 1947.Britain has ordered the cruiser "Mauritius" to "Proceed forthwith" to the vicinity of Abadan, the oil port of troubled Iran.Foreign secretary, Herbert Morrison, disclosing this today June 26, in the house of commons, said the Anglo-Iranian company at the same time has ordered all its tankers to leave Abadan immediately.The company acted in view of a deadlock with the Persian authorities over the terms for tankers to leave with cargoes of oil. Queen Maud's Body Taken Aboard The "Royal Oak" Gale Delays Sailing - The body being taken aboard the 'Royal Oak'' at Portsmouth.The 70-miles an hour gale which is sweeping England delayed the sailing of the ''Royal Oak'', which is taking the body of Queen Maud to Norway for the funeral.King Haakon and his son, Crown Prince Olaf, who are also to travel on the warship, will remain at Portsmouth until the warship sails to-morrow (Thursday).Queen Maud, sister of the late King George V, died in London at the age of 69 after an abdominal operation. November 23, 1938.

British Cruiser In Persian Gulf -- The cruiser Mauritius during a visit to Trieste. It was announced by the British Foreign Secretary, the Rt. Hon, Herbert Morrison, that the British Government has ordered the ***** ton cruiser H.M.S. Mauritius to the vicinity of Abadan, near the Anglo Iranian Oil Compan's refineries.The 'Mauritius' is Flagship of the East Indies Fleet and is commanded by Captain E.O.F. Price. She carries a complement of 800 officers and men and mounting a main armament of nine six inch guns, she is capable of doing over 30 knots. Abadan lies on the west bank of the Shatt-al-Arba river, about 30 miles from its mouth, and the shallow draught of the cruiser Mauritius will enable her to sail up river. July 24, 1951. British Warships In The Tagus -- Our photograph, taken recently, shows H.M.S. Nelson, flagship of Admiral Sir Roger Backhouse, Commander-in-Chief, Home Fleet, in the Tagus, Lisbon, Portugal. The Nelson, accompanied by other British warships, paid a four-day visit, and this is the largest number of British warships to visit Lisbon since 1931. New Aircraft Catapult Installed in British Carrier - H.M.S. Perseus to Visit the United States.The light fleet carrier, H.M.S. Perseus, will shortly sail to the United States to demonstrate a powerful catapult which can launch the most modern carrier-borne aircraft, which is being developed by the Admiralty.While on her visit to the United States, the light fleet carrier will carry out further tests of the new catapult in co-operation with the United States Navy to enable American aviation experts to access its potentialities. The catapult which is steam no rams or hydraulic purchases. The hook to which the aircraft is connected is attached directly to a piston driven along the cylinder by high pressure steam from the ship's main boilers. January 25, 1952.
