New 'Kenya Castle' Sails -- The now 17,000-ton Union Castle liner Kenya Castle, pictured here as she leaves Southampton today (Friday) on her maiden voyage a 14-day pleasure cruise to Lisbon, Malaga, Casablanca, Cadiz and Las Palmas. Later she will join the Company's service around Africa.The fifth liner built by Union Castle since the war, the Kenya Castle is a one-class vessel.All passengers will enjoy equal facilities. Arrival: The new £7,500,000 Orient liner Orsova, sails up Sydney Harbour today to her Pyrmont berth on her maiden voyage. The 29,000-ton liner left London on March 17 and brought to Sydney 681 first-class and 813 tourist-class passengers. May 5, 1954.

July 1911. The largest ship in the world. The new steamer "Olympus" has just made her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York, and can accommodate 2,500 passengers. She is 882 feet and six inches long, 94 feet wide, and 105 feet high. She has a crew of 860 men and can travel at 22 knots per hour.

This ship, seen with it's stern on the left, was built by the Newcastle firm of Sir William Armstrong, Whitworth and Co. for the Trans-Siberian railway. United States Docks At Southampton -- Aerial View of the new Blue Riband Holder, United States, as she nears the ocean terminal, Southampton, *****. To the tunes of the "star-spangled banner" and "god save the queen", the 53,000-ton American liner, United States, docked an Southampton at 6 p.m. today. dead on time. After her record-breaking trip across the Atlantic, the ship was welcomed with wild enthusiasm by 20,000 people. It was the biggest reception since the maiden voyage of the queen Mary in 1936.
