Umbria Perugia San Giacomo di Spoleto S. Giacomo4. Hutzel, Max 1960-1990 One exterior view and many negatives of this thirteenth-century church. Interior views focus on the apse and side chapel frescoes. In the apse: St. Mary Magdalen, St. Apollonia, St. James and two of his miracles, the Coronation of the Virgin. In the Cappella S. Sebastiano: St. Sebastian, St. Roch and Pope Gregory (1528 frescoes by Lo Spagna). To the right of the apse: the Madonna, Angels, Saints Peter, Anthony Abbot, and Bartholomew. Also views of altar paintings, reliquaries, gilt crucifix, and two wooden candle holders/statues of boys (17th century). Object Notes: Hutzel made two photo campaigns of this church, first on February 7, 1982 and then on January 31, 1983. There are only 50 different views for the 82 prints. Martin Luther (14831546). 1520. Luthers trilogy of sermons on the sacraments concluded in 1519 with his first extended statement on the Lords Supper. In it he proposed that the laity should receive both the bread and the wine at Communion. Although Luther did not yet refute the doctrine of transubstantiation, the sermon was promptly attacked. The woodcut on the title page shows the Seven Sacraments, with the Savior above the chalice at the center.

'Aeneas Silvus Piccolomini at the Court of James I of Scotland', (1946). In 1435, Italian cardinal Enea Silvio Piccolomini (1405-1464, later Pope Pius II) was sent on a secret mission to Scotland. Indigenous traditions gave rise to distinctly Spanish American iterations of Catholic faith. In the stories of local cults, Christianized Indians figure prominently as witnesses to miraculous apparitions of the Virgin Mary and demonstrations of her healing powers. This painting shows a statue of Our Lady of Cocharcas, whose cult following developed after Sebastián Quimichi, a young Indian, made a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Copacabana. He purchased a replica of the miraculous statue and returned to his hometown of Cocharcas, where it was the source of miracles and developed a cult following as Our Lady of Cocharcas. A narrative scene at the bottom of the altar on which the statue stands shows Quimichi, his importance emphasized by his exaggerated size.
