World's Largest Liner Launched By Queen Elizabeth -- The "Queen Elizabeth" going down the slipway after being launched by Queen Elizabeth on Clydebank, Scotland today September 27. A button pressed by Queen Elizabeth on September 27, at Clydebank, Scotland, launched her namesake "Queen Elizabeth" the world's largest liner. The boat is 1030 feet in length, and has a gross tonnage of 85000 tons. The king was to have been present at the naming ceremony, but was prevented from doing so by the international situation. New Canadian Launched By Princess Margaret -- The 1 posing bulk of the Carinthia slides down the ways after her launch by Princess Margaret to-day.In blustery weather, Princess Margaret to-day (Wednesday) launched the 22,000 tons Cunard liner Carinthia from the John Brown shipyards on Clydebank, Scotland.Despite the raid, the Princess insisted on walking down the side of the ship to see last-minute preparations for the launch.The liner, third of four new Cunarders for the Canadian service, will make heer maidan voyage on June 27, 1956. The Long Lines, new telephone cable laying ship. Leaving Baltimore recently to begin paying cut special armorless cable that will provide the first direct telephone cable link between the United States and Great Britain. The 3500-mile cable will connect Tuckerton, New Jersey with Widemouth in Cornwall. It is designed to handle 128 simultaneous two-way telephone conversations.

This U.S. Warship Was Built In Only 60 Days To Set All-Time Record -- A new United States destroyer takes to the sea at an eastern seaboard navy yard-- only 60 days after her keel was laid. The construction time set an all-time speed record for ships of her type and design. Under normal conditions it would require 163 days to build such a ship. October 31, 1942.
