Even the seagulls found it tough to make much headway let alone the lumbering liners that had to berth in that blusterly westerly in Fremantle Hoarbour today. Here the camera catches four gulls (circled) as well as two tugs straining to turn the migrant ship fairsea in midstream. The fairsea was turning to go into her berth at No.3, North Wharf, when she was caught by wind and tide. Crabwise, she edged down the harbour towards the railway bridge. Then, off H Shed, the tugs (with the aid of a bow anchor from the liner) finally got her round. The operation took more than an hour. August 4, 1955.

The Largest Floating Dock in the World. On the morning of August 22nd the huge floating dock which is to constitute such a valuable addition to the docking accommodation of warshi at Portsmouth was towed into Portsmouth Harbour by 4 powerful tugs. The dock left Birkenhead a week previously where it had been constructed by Messrs. Cammell Laird & Co., and arrived after a very rough voyage. The dock was ordered in 1909 and is the largest in the world. Its length over all is 700 feet and 680 feet over the blocks. Its width at the entrance is 150 feet and it has a lifting capacity of 4,000 tons,so that it will be able to dock the largest Super-Dreadnought yet built or designed. This photo shows the huge dock being towed into Portsmouth Harbour.

S.S. Pere Marquette 18 passing State Street bridge, Chicago, Illinois, c. 1902-1910.The ship functioned as an excursion boat in the summers, and as a railroad car ferry for the remainder of the year. On Sept. 10, 1910, she sunk in high seas in the middle of Lake Michigan, taking 29 people down with her. Another 33 were saved when the S.S. Pere Marquette 17 responded to her distress call (BSLOC_2018_4_6)
