Flaxman's outline drawings illustrating Homer's Iliad Venus wounded conducted by Iris to Mars. Diomed casting his spear against Mars. Le Carnaval de 1814 ou Le marcaroni Impérial - Political Cartoon shows Napoleon and Cambacérès as a harlequin and punch, respectively; between them is a table on which is a map of Europe. Cambacérès ladles out a macaroni soup comprised of the unpopular actions and events of Napoleon's reign. Napoleon, standing on a chair, gestures to Cambacérès and offers him money. Standing behind Napoleon, an injured war veteran, with one leg and a crutch, smokes a pipe and condemns their actions.

Lunch at the Fork (Le Dejeuner à la Fourchette) 1813 Johann Gottfried Schadow Lunch at the Fork is an important example of Schadows work as a caricaturist and watercolorist This is one of two small-scale watercolors that Schadow refers to in his diary as the beginning of a series of designs for the publisher Carl Weiss. This an its pair, Napoleon's Retreat, were turned into etchings in 1813. They depict Napoleons horrific retreat from Russia, a subject with personal meaning for Schadow, who himself had French troops billeted in his house in Berlin. According to Greek mythology, Camilla was a member of the Volsci, an Italic tribe. Her parents were King Metabus and Casmilla. According to Virgil's Aeneid, Metabus was dethroned by his people and forced to flee. He grabbed his daughter and as the Volsci chase him, he fears for Camilla, attaches her to his spear and flings both across the River Amasenus and then he swims across and got her. Later Camilla joins with Turnus, king of the Rutuli, and they fight against Aeneas and his followers who have fled Troy after the Trojans lose to the Greeks in the Trojan War. She is killed by the Trojan Aunus as is seen here in this illustration from around 1900.
