Starving East Germans Buy Food From The West -- East Berliners buying cherries in the borough of Kreuzberg which adjoins the Eastern sector of Berlin.For 75 East German Pfennigs East Berliners could buy one pound of cherries.The borough of Kreuzberg has been the centre of the "Helping Hand" given by West Berliners to their Eastern compatriots.Over 5,000 East Berliners crossed the frontier into West Berlin to buy food the other day.They bought cherries, milk and oranges at ordinary market prices. Principal of the hangi is that stones are heated with by fire, food placed on, covered with wet sacks, and then heaped with earth 21 two hours meat vegetables and steamed puddings are cooked.
