A Government Training College was opened at Nasinu in 1947 to combine the functions of the various mission institutions previously concerned with the training of teachers. Radio Lessons For Malay Schoolchildren: A Radio lesson being broadcast to a Malayan School. Over 1,500 schools in the Federation of Malaya are now receiving the daily school broadcasts sent out from Radio Malaya. These broadcasts, designed as an aid to teaching, were started as an experiment in 1946, and have resulted in schools - both English and Vernacular - being registered as a 'listening' school. The programmes are transmitted twice daily, morning and afternoon, during the school terms. The School Broadcasting Section of Radio Malaya is staffed mainly by professional teachers, each a specialist in his own subject, Educational policy is under the School Broadcasting Advisory Committee which meets once a year to draw up the programmes for the coming year. They have sent £1/16/6 from 18 pupils to the Food For Britain Appeal headquarters. 144 Castlereagh-street, since May 25. Children at Lithgow school will answer letters of thanks from Infants at Cinderford school, in Gloucestershire for food from Australia. The Food for Australia Appeal will launch a drive for 1/- donations from as many people as possible. A tin of food car be sent, with a 1/- "gift letter" label, bearing the sender's name and address. They will be sold through recognised local organisers. August 25, 1946.
