Station opened by Stockholm - Västerås - Berglagen Railways, SWJ 1878. Then the first station house was built. In 1922 a new station house was erected, which in 1943 received a new interior in the waiting room. Switchgear was added in 1922. The station with the other station house, has moved from Sundbyberg.

Knutby was one of Länna - Norrtälje Railway, LNJ's largest and most important stations. A station printer was located in Knutby, you could easily reach all of the track stations when any station needed assistance with train clearance and expedition tasks.
