Restoration Of Rheims Cathedral -- Part of the restored walls and roof of the nave. The outer roof was destroyed in September 1914 in the fire that followed the first German bombardment. The first stage of the restoration of Rheims Cathedral has been completed. The nave can now be used again for public worship and on May 26. Ascension Day, the Archbishop, Cardinal Lucon, will celebrate High Mass there for the first time since the war. The whole of the outer roof has been provided for by a magnificent donation of 6,000,000 Frances from Mr. John Rockefeller, Jun, only one-third of which has so far been employed. June 22, 1951.
