Tradeswoman of Lisieux. She wears a serre-tete fixed with a double ribbon, like those worn by the women of Paris at night. The term "grisette" referred to a working class woman, usually in the clothes trade, but also carried the connotation of floozy. Handcoloured etching by Auguste Etienne Guillaumot Jr. from "Costumes of the Directory," Rouquette, Paris, 1875. The etchings were made from designs by Eugene Lacoste and Draner after prints of the era 1795-99. The costumes are from theatre productions "Merveilleuses" and "Pres Saint-Gervais" by Victorien Sardou.
