This image shows a nose release mechanism, Mark 1, which is still in its experimental stage. It is part of the trench warfare material stored in the Ordnance Department in the Ford Building, located in Washington, D.C. The photograph was taken by Lt. M.S. Lentz of the Signal Reserve Corps on May 6, 1918.

The photograph shows technicians from the U.S. Bureau of Mines testing the purity of gasoline during World War I. Samples of gasoline are evaporated in special copper cups on a steam bath to determine if they corrode metal or form gummy deposits, as they could potentially affect the performance of military equipment.

During World War One, the Chemical Warfare Service carried out physiological tests on mice as part of their research and development efforts. In this image, mice are seen during a test, presumably to assess the effects of chemicals or substances related to warfare.

Testing ash residue from burned Pillsbury flour at the Pillsbury Flour Mills in Minneapolis, MN. This method is used to determine the value of the flour.
