If the inflammation persists, the damaged intestine becomes unable to absorb certain nutrients, vitamins and minerals. It can lead to malnutrition, despite normal eating habits.

During the first contact with allergens, the dendritic cells capture the allergens then migrate to the lymph nodes (a phase simplified by the yellow arrow). Illustration of radioimmunotherapy used to treat pancreatic cancer. A radioactive isotope (lead-212) is combined with a specific antibody capable of targeting cancerous cells. This combination of antibody and lead-212 radioisotope is injected intravenously into the body until it reaches the pancreas where it locks onto the cancerous cells' antigen. Clinical phase of allergic rhinitis during contact with the allergen: the allergen is recognized by the IgE of the mast cells and immediately causes the release of histamine. A delayed reaction releases leukotrienes and cytokines which causes permanent inflammation. Below the inflammation stimulates the differentiation of lymphocytes into Th2 cells. These promote the proliferation of mast cells and the production of IgE specific for the antigen by the B lymphocytes. Specific immunotherapy reduces the production of IgE by the B lymphocytes and promotes the production of IgG which will neutralize the allergen.

From the inside to the outside the brain is covered by the pia mater, a white sheet. Above the arachnoid is the subarachnoid space. This space is delimited by the pia mater and the arachnoid represented in bluish gray. The dura is the thick pinkish beige layer between the two white layers. Between the inferior leaflet of the dura mater and the arachnoid is a small virtual subdural space. The meninges and the brain are surrounded by the bone of the skull.
