YOKOSUKA, Japan (May 21, 2022) Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Henry Cole, assigned to the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, USS Mobile Bay (CG 53) secures the ship's mooring lines to the pier onboard Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) for a scheduled port visit as part of the Abraham Lincoln Strike Group. The Abraham Lincoln Strike Group is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability through alliances and partnerships while serving as a ready-response force in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region. For more than 75 years, CFAY has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th fleet's forward deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families.

The unit was called to assist Las Vegas Metro Police with a suspicious substance in a hotel in west Las Vegas. The substance was identified as ricin, a poisonous protein toxin that can be fatal if inhaled or injected. The team is one of 52 certified units nationwide to support local and state authorities at domestic incident sites by identifying hazardous agents and substances.

Norfolk (September 21, 2022). Chief Petty Officer selectees from various commands in the Hampton Roads, Virginia region listen as LCDR David Wood, USN (Ret.) shares some of his experiences aboard the decommissioned Iowa Class Battleship USS Wisconsin (BB-64). David served 30 years in the U.S. Navy, and rose to the enlisted rank of Senior Chief (E-8). He received his commission, and eventually retired the rank of Lieutenant Commander. The presentation was part of the Hampton Roads Naval Museums 21st Annual Chief Petty Officer Heritage Days event. The three-day event allows CPO selectees to receive history and heritage training at the museum and aboard the Battleship Wisconsin. The event is held at the museum and aboard the Battleship Wisconsin, and is hosted in conjunction with area commands. The event is the longest running and largest of its kind in Virginia.

BOSTON (Nov. 22 2022) U.S. Navy Aviation Ordnanceman 2nd Class, Tanner Schaefer, from Paynesville, Minnesota, decorates USS Constitution in preparation for the holiday season. USS Constitution, is the worlds oldest commissioned warship afloat, and played a crucial role in the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812, actively defending sea lanes from 1797 to 1855. During normal operations, the active-duty Sailors stationed aboard USS Constitution provide free tours and offer public visitation to more than 600,000 people a year as they support the ships mission of promoting the Navys history and maritime heritage and raising awareness of the importance of a sustained naval presence. USS Constitution was undefeated in battle and destroyed or captured 33 opponents.

Fort Dix hosted a Water Survival course for up to 22 aircrew members from the 514 AMW during their upcoming UTA weekend. This training includes water survival orientation and in water training. The training equipment included 1 life raft anchored in the water and 1 blown up on the shore. Students will get outfitted with a life preserver, and will swim from the shore to the life raft and then enter it. Once all members are in the raft, we will discuss the raft maintenance and equipment to help them survive during whatever the environmental conditions give them. Throughout the time, they have instructors in a safety raft (small oar paddled inflatable raft) and up to two PWCs (jet skis) with rescue sleds equipped on the back. During this training if there is an emergency, the PWCs will approach the scene and their safety team will load personnel onto the rescue sled to quickly move them to shore.
