Italian Landscape with a Draughtsman by Jan Both (1618-1652) oil on canvas, c 1650-1652. Our eye meanders happily through this large painting. If we follow the road and cross the bridge, we see in the distance a well-to-do traveller in a sedan chair. Mules carry his baggage. By placing a draughtsman near the bridge over the waterfall, both would have us believe that he painted this scene from life, but in reality it was painted at home in his Dutch studio.

Ladies Outing at Hünkr İskelesi along the Bosporus. In summer, wealthy inhabitants of Istanbul fled the hot and humid city in search of cooler weather along the banks of the Bosporus. These outings were virtually the only diversion that women could enjoy outside their homes. The women of the sultans harem sometimes went on picnics. Vanmour probably painted one such occasion here. A black eunuch stands guard to keep out uninvited guests (men).

This painting titled The Market Cart is by English astist Thomas Gainsborough and is housed in The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, which describes it: The market cart is laden with fresh produce. On the right is a woodcutter, a favorite motif of Gainsborough's, but the composition is dominated by the grandeur of the trees. This is one of Gainsborough's last landscapes. It was first exhibitied in the artist's house in Pall Mall in 1786, the same year it was painted. Gainsborough added the figure of the woodman gathering faggots the following year.
