Wooded Upland Landscape probably 1783 Thomas Gainsborough British Gainsborough made many drawings after nature, and drew inspiration from the Northern European landscape tradition. However, this idyllic landscape is imaginary and the chalk sketch on which it is based were probably composed in the artist's London studio in 1783. Boatman among the Reeds ca. 1865 Camille Corot French Since Corot often repeated compositions and motifs, his works are difficult to date. The present picture betrays similarities to Corot's River with a Distant Tower, also in the Museum's collection, which, on the basis of style, seems to date to the early 1860s.
