A Lock on the Stour 1830 David Lucas British In 1827, Constable began work on the project that would occupy his attention until his death seven years later: the publication of a series of prints based on his paintings that would stand as a summary of his achievements. The painter collaborated closely with the engraver David Lucas to create prints that would illustrate Constable's didactic intentionto illustrate the "chiaroscuro of nature." View in Behar, in an Anglo-Indian Album associated with Sir Charles D'Oyly ca. 1828 Sir Charles D'Oyly British Born to English parents in Bengal, DOyly followed his father into the civil service. By 1820 he was the East India Companys opium agent and commercial resident, or tax collector, at Patna, on the Ganges River in Bihar, northeast India. An avid and accomplished amateur artist, whose "pencil like his hookah-snake was always in his hand," DOyly established a lithographic press that he operated between 1828 and 1831 with the help of Indian assistants. This fine representation of the presss output shows the Bodhi Tree at Bihar, where the Buddha attained enlightenment. It is mounted in an album that was assembled in India by 1828..
