ISS018-E-034074 (20 Feb. 2009) --- Astronaut Sandra Magnus, Expedition 18 flight engineer, works with the LOH- RadGene experiment near the Cell Biology Experiment Facility (CBEF) in the Kibo laboratory of the International Space Station. This experiment investigates alterations in immature immune cells that have been exposed to cosmic radiation. The samples were placed in culture bags and launched to the ISS on the STS-126 mission. After the experiment, frozen samples will be returned to the ground on the STS-119 mission.

ISS024-E-015187 (23 Sept. 2010) --- NASA astronaut Tracy Caldwell Dyson, Expedition 24 flight engineer, makes final preparations for her departure in the Soyuz TMA-18 docked to the Poisk Mini-Research Module 2 (MRM2) of the International Space Station. The Soyuz undocked at 10:02 p.m. (EDT) on Sept. 24, 2010, carrying Caldwell Dyson, along with Russian cosmonauts Alexander Skvortsov and Mikhail Kornienko (both out of frame). Originally scheduled for Sept. 23, the Soyuz undocked a day later due to a Poisk-side hatch sensor problem, which prevented hooks on the Poisk side of the docking interface from opening.

ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti works on ESAs FSL Soft Matter Dynamics - PASTA, a study of whether additives increase or decrease the stability of emulsions. These phenomena can be better observed in microgravity, where the effects of buoyancy are absent.

ISS036-E-020938 (17 July 2013) --- NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg, Expedition 36 flight engineer, works to setup the Multi-Purpose Small Payload Rack (MSPR) fluorescence microscope in the Kibo laboratory of the International Space Station. This configuration, along with the leak checks that the crew performed in June, is in preparation for the Aniso Tubule experiment launching on HTV-4 in August. Aniso Tubule will investigate the role of cortical microtubules and microtubule-associated proteins in plant growth while in microgravity.

iss061e048840 (Nov. 19, 2019) --- NASA astronaut Christina Koch works inside Japan's Kibo laboratory module setting up a small satellite deployer loaded with three CubeSats developed by the nations of Japan, Rwanda and Egypt. The deployer was placed inside Kibo's airlock before the Japanese robotic arm grappled it and moved it outside Kibo where it would eject all three CubeSats into Earth orbit.

She and partner crewmember Jeff Williams also of NASA will work on installation of a new International Docking Adapter. The work is scheduled to start on Aug 19, 2016.. The work of spacewalkers Williams and Rubins will enable future crew vehicles from Boeing and SpaceX to dock on the station.

NASA astronaut and Expedition 66 Flight Engineer Kayla Barron sets up an AstroBee robotic free flyer with an experimental audio sensor for the SoundSee Mission experiment. The robotics study uses acoustic technology to detect anomalies and possibly identify early indications of space hardware failure.

ISS019-E-010155 (18 April 2009) --- Astronaut Michael Barratt, Expedition 19/20 flight engineer, uses Neurospat hardware to perform the Bodies in the Space Environment (BISE) experiment in the Destiny laboratory of the International Space Station. The Canadian Space Agency-sponsored BISE experiment studies how astronauts perceive up and down in microgravity.

STS083-302-002 (4-8 April 1997) --- At the MidDeck Glove Box (MGBX), astronaut Donald A. Thomas, mission specialist, prepares to conduct the Internal Flows in Free Drops (IFFD) experiment. The IFFD is meant to study drops of several liquids, including water, water/glycerin and silicon oil. Flows within the drops and shape and stability are studied under varying acoustic pressure. The MGBX is the overall facility that holds experiments on materials that are not approved for study in the open Spacelab environment.

The ACME project is a set of six independent studies of gaseous flames that may help to improve fuel efficiency, reduce pollution and prevent spacecraft fires.

Wetlab RNA SmartCycler is a research platform for conducting real-time quantitative gene expression analysis aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The system enables spaceflight genomic studies involving a wide variety of biospecimen types in the unique microgravity environment of space.

Known as SLAMMD, or Space Linear Acceleration Mass Measurement Device, it uses a form of Newton's Second Law of Motion and applies a known force to an object or an astronaut with the resulting acceleration used to calculate mass in microgravity

Yeast-GAP experiment studies the effects of genetic changes of yeast cells exposed to the space environment. The results will help scientists to understand how cells respond to radiation and microgravity.

The two ventured outside the International Space Station on Friday, Oct. 18, to replace faulty equipment on the stations exterior. The astronauts replaced a faulty battery charge/discharge unit (BCDU) that failed to activate following the Oct. 11 installation of new lithium-ion batteries on the space stations exterior structure. The BCDUs regulate the amount of charge put into the batteries that collect energy from the stations solar arrays to power station systems during periods when the station orbits during nighttime passes around Earth. Though the BCDU failure has not impacted station operations or crew safety, it does prevent the new batteries from providing increased station power.

This is one of series of photos showing Magnus, mission specialist for the Space Shuttle Program's final flight, taking advantage of the zero gravity of space and the panoramic view provided by the multi-windowed Cupola.
