Duke Ellington, born in Washington, is the representation of the New Orleans or Harlem Jazz style. This photograph, taken in 1930, shows guitarist Eddie Condon on the right. Ellington became more famous not so much as a jazz pianist, but for his ease in composing and his willingness to conduct the orchestra.
